Hyderabad: Telangana Congress Working President and incumbent Kodangal MLA Revanth Reddy was detained by police in the early hours of Tuesday from Kodangal. This development comes hours before the scheduled rally of caretaker Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) in the same area.

Reddy was picked up from his residence to prevent any untoward incident during Rao`s rally in Kosgi, Kodangal, and was shifted to an undisclosed location, reported news agency IANS. He had allegedly threated to disrupt KCR's rally and had called for a shutdown. The Election Commission had also issued a notice to Reddy for his threat.

Earlier this year, Reddy had quit the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to join the Congress.

“KCR is losing his sleep with the growing popularity of the Prajakutami. Police arrested our Working President & MLA Revanth Reddy at 3 am as KCR is holding a rally there. This is highly condemnable. EC must take necessary action & ensure the conduct of a free and fair election,” tweeted Telangana Congress.

Reacting to the development, Congress leader G N Reddy said, “KCR is misusing the police, the manner in which police entered his bedroom, it has never happened in India. Revanth Reddy is not an ordinary man, he is a Brahmos missile and this missile is going to finish TRS.”

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Kodangal area following Reddy`s detention.

The police have already imposed prohibitory orders in the town to prevent any untoward incident.

Elections to the 119-member Telangana Assembly are scheduled for December 7.
