K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is headed towards securing absolute majority in Assembly elections 2018. The TRS won 88 seats while the Congress-led Prajakutami was far behind, winning just 21 seats. The BJP and others won on one and nine seats respectively.
Unlike Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, the youngest state of India, Telangana, witnessed a multi-corner contest in Assembly elections 2018. Most of the exit polls have predicted that K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will emerge victorious in the state. However, joint opposition alliance Prajakutami – comprising the Telugu Desam Party, the Congress, the Telangana Jana Samithi and the CPI – is expected to give a tough fight to KCR. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM has already declared that the party will give full support to KCR’s TRS. Apart from KCR, those in the race for chief ministership in Telangana are Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy, the state unit chief of the Congress party, and M Kodandaram, the founder of Telangana Jana Samithi, which is a constituent of the Prajakutami.
