Birthday special: Seven times Jimmy Shergill’s on-screen characters defined life!

Mumbai: Remember that cute boy with a little beard from Chapa Chapa Charkha Chale (Machis)? Yes, here we are talking about birthday boy Jimmy Shergill. Well, the 46-year-old star went on to give impactful performances in movies like Sahi Biwi Aur Gangster, Tanu Weds Manu and A Wednesday.

From Jasjit Singh Gill to Jimmy Shergill, here’s a look at the versatile characters he played in his 20-year-old career in Bollywood.

1)      Nachiket Verma- Madaari
Jimmy Shergil aced his police avatar in the movie alongside Irfan Khan. His calm and composed character - sporting a walrus styled moustache and glasses - balanced Irfan’s rather disturbed, dejected role. Jimmy sums up the movie theme in two dialogues:  
“People don’t expect rulers to have commoners’ fate,” and “Ghatna ke baad sab Gyaani ban jaate hai”.

2)      Hrithik - Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar

4)      Colonel Viren Nanda- Bang Bang
Though seen for a limited period of time in the movie Bang Bang, Jimmy Shergil plays a good guy. Defining the patriotism in its truest sense, he says:
 “Joh desh ke liye ladte hai ... unki maut ka countdown unki pehli saans ke saath shuru ho jaata hai”

5)      Victor D’souza- Lage Raho Munnabhai
Honesty is the best policy- Victor taught us how to rise when everything you try becomes unsuccessful. The dialogue - where he confesses to his father - made our eyes wet. And all of us got impressed by his sheer simplicity in the movie.   

6)      Rohit Khanna- Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai
He loses the girl at the end of the movie, again! His character fits the bill of being a perfect son-in-law. Jimmy did become a household name after this movie with his sanskari image. He gives a key lesson which we often tend to ignore when taking important life decisions. So next time you want to take a decision consider this dialogue :
