Las Vegas shooting: Gunman 'down' after killing at least 58

The suspect - identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock - opened fire from the 32nd floor of a hotel adjoing an open-air concert venue. 

Las Vegas: At least 58 people have been killed and over 515 injured after a gunman opened fire at area around Mandalay Bay Casino here, according to a AFP report quoting police officials. This is the deadliest mass shooting incident in modern US history.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that the suspect - identified as Stephen Paddock - has been shot dead and they believe that there are no more shooters.

The police are searching for two vehicles associated with the shooter, Hyundai Tucson Nevada/114B40 and a Chrysler Pacifica Nevada/79D401.

Police are also looking out for a woman named Marilou Danley. Reports suggest that she was accompanying the suspect.

Freeways have been reopened for traffic. However, the off ramps heading eastbound are closed from Sahara Avenue to Russell Road.

The police have asked people to avoid the area around Mandalay Bay Casino.

Some flights destined for LAS Airport have been diverted due to the shooting incident.

Las Vegas Police have appealed to the people not to live stream or share tactical positions of the cops on scene.

I15 Freeway has been closed from Tropicana to Russell Rd, Las Vegas Police reported.

University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said the Las Vegas hospital is taking in "several" people with gunshot wounds. 

Pictures taken at the scene showed revelers cowering in the street or running in terror, as well what appeared to be several bodies lying prone on the ground.
